About Suzi Rumohr

A native of North Texas, Suzi was born and raised in Paris, about two hours from Denton. She first came to Denton in 2005 to attend the University of North Texas, where she earned a B.A. in Anthropology and a B.A. in Spanish, along with a teaching certification for 6th-12th grades.

After graduating college, Suzi served as a volunteer in AmeriCorps’ City Year program in San Jose, California. Upon returning to Texas, she earned a master’s degree in Library Science at UNT.

Since 2014, Suzi has been an integral part of Texas Woman’s University (TWU) as a research librarian. Her role, deeply rooted in service, connects students and faculty with essential information and resources for their success in academics and in life.

Beyond her primary work responsibilities, Suzi has contributed to university initiatives by serving on several committees, including leadership roles on TWU’s Sustainability Committee, Health & Wellbeing Initiative, and Faculty Senate.

Suzi’s love of learning fuels her continuous growth and development. It has shaped her perspectives while also inspiring continued learning.

As an undergraduate at UNT, Suzi quickly learned she could save money and time on parking by bicycling to campus. After a summer studying abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico, she returned with a newfound confidence in using buses and began incorporating buses into her travel around Denton.

Suzi continues to use multiple modes of transportation to get around Denton, including driving, biking, walking, and public transportation. Each mode of transportation comes with its own challenges. Driving can be frustrating when stuck in traffic or hunting for parking. Biking and walking can feel life-threatening. Public transportation can be difficult to access or have scheduling challenges.

Suzi experiences the challenges and benefits of each mode of transportation and understands the community value in providing each of them as an option to the people of Denton.

Suzi’s curiosity and love of learning led her to explore how cities work, how they’re designed, and why they look and function the way they do. Always a problem-solver, she began engaging with and volunteering locally, demonstrating her ability to address challenges head-on.

Though currently a homeowner, Suzi was a renter until 2018. She remembers the challenges of finding affordable housing with her small salary as an undergraduate and graduate student. The cost of housing has ballooned since she rented and bought her house. This threatens the ability of current and future generations to live in Denton and hurts the health of our local economy.

Suzi’s wide-ranging life experiences and volunteer work give her a broad, well-rounded understanding of the housing, mobility, and financial struggles of District 3 residents and the city at large. Her problem-solving nature and endless curiosity motivate her to pursue meaningful improvements in these areas while balancing the city’s long-term financial stability.
